Breeding Trials:Litters:

Another breeding season is here. A good thing since 2009 was a miserable failure with only 11 live babies produced. The upside is that there are a lot of strong, healthy females that had the year off. The pairing choices are the usual challenge. The lineup will definitely be fluid for awhile as I change my mind and also move males that don’t find their true love. My good fortune is that there are a lot of good choices and probably not too many bad ones in this season’s lineup. Most of the females are back from last season and some new ones that I have raised up will be available. I have some exciting genetic possibilities with males that came from other collections. I have two beautiful Aztec males, two Russian T+ males, two German Marron males, a German Mandarin male, and many others. Some fantastic possibilities in here if I get lucky.

I have very mixed emotions about this season. Although I produced my highest number of litters (10) and babies (90).....I also had 98 slugs, 14 premies, & 7 stillborns. The joy of new life was definitely tinged by the disappointment of death & failure. So in the final tally, 90 eggs were successful but 119 weren't. I'm not happy with that but I am pleased with the quality of the babies. Some great looking kids with interesting genetics. The final breakdown for the season is 21 het Blonde, 14 Salmon Jungle, 13 Aztec, 11 Jungle, 9 Jungle het Blonde, 9 normal, 4 Salmon Super Jungle, 4 Super Motley het Blonde, 2 Salmon, 2 Salmon poss Jungle, & 1 poss Jungle.
